PILOT STORIES: Contract Pilots

Did you know?In 1926, the Post Office Department began transferring airmail responsibility to private companies. Dozens of aviation companies were sprouting up, and most sought airmail contracts to maintain a steady income for their survival and growth. The new airlines hired ex-postal pilots as well as flyers who had not yet had to fly to the dictates of schedule maintenance.
