Wallace Striker was born to Frederick and Agnes Striker on November 4, 1892 in Oakland, California. Prior to joining the Air Mail Service on May 22, 1920, he served two years in the aerial service during World War I and worked as an engineer and machinist.

Striker did not do well in his rookie tests and washed out of the service as "unsatisfactory" less than two weeks later.
