Project Transition
Why I Joined
I was in the Navy. And when I was in the Navy, I was getting ready to get out and they had a program called Project Transition. I was stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, so you could either stay in Florida and go to one of the companies they had there and they would train you for a job, but if they trained you, you had to stay there and work. So the Post Office offered you jobs, and I took a test while I was still in the Navy. I took the test in May 1969, and I got out in July of 1969 and the Post Office called me in August of 1969, so that’s how I started with the Post Office, and that was all part of that program with different companies and such that tried to give veterans jobs before they got out.
