Delivery Problems
Funniest Moment
In 1979 I was assigned as the acting postmaster of the Seattle Sectional Center from February until August. Of the many day to day activities of a large post office that occurred during that time was a revaluation of the downtown delivery routes. A week after the changes were installed we got a call from a customer informing us that one of our corner mailboxes was full and running over. A check revealed that our remapping of the downtown routes had missed a corner box and mail had piled for several days. It turned out that over 300 pieces of mail had not been touched for several days. It was decided that I would write a letter for the paper apologizing for the oversight and offer to write a letter accepting the responsibility for any problems that might be cause for our failure to deliver.
When the smoke all cleared there were over a 1,000 requests for the lateness apology for the 300 pieces of late mail. Tongue in cheek we complied with all the requests.
