Review the American with Disabilities Act’s definition of disability in order to have an appropriate understanding of the term. Give students a specific disability to look up and have them share their findings with the class. Do they know anyone with that specific disability, whether it is a family member, friend, celebrity, or historic figure?
Ask students which disability they would want versus which they wouldn’t want. This provides an opportunity to extract and review biases on people with specific disabilities.
