Objects are the heart and soul of a museum. The collection and preservation of these bits and pieces of our history is crucial not only to presenting that history to the public, but also in ensuring that generations to come have access to their past. Photographs can bring context and dimension to objects and history. This selection of hundreds of photographs was assembled, researched, described by museum staff in 2006-2008 to highlight several subjects within the broad scope and experience of US postal history. These images representing the theme of “people and the post” provide both historic context and a sense of humanity for objects, people, events, and operations that have been involved in postal services.
