The United States hosted the 1932 Olympic Winter Games, held at Lake Placid, New York. It was customary for the host nation to issue a stamp for the occasion, so on January 25, 1932, the U.S. Post Office Department issued a single 2-cent red stamp picturing a ski jumper. The design received some criticism for showing the skier in an unnatural position, but the public generally accepted the issue.
