3-cent William Penn single

A violet 3-cent stamp issued October 24, 1932, honored William Penn (1644-1718), founder of the colony of Pennsylvania. Issued to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Penn's 1682 landing in the New World, the stamp's portrait design was inspired by a painting of Penn at twenty-two years, executed in London in 1666.
