For the Elvis stamp, one of the most highly publicized postage stamps of all time, artist Mark Stutzman began with a photograph of the singer dressed in the Civil War-era jacket and tie he wore in the 1956 film Love Me Tender. Stutzman felt that the expression on Presley’s face was perfect, but he gave “the King” a more colorful jacket; he also added the microphone and a rakish lock of hair.
