Corita Kent was an Iowa-born nun who taught art in Los Angeles. After leaving the sisterhood in 1968, she devoted herself to conveying artistic messages of optimism and peace, including a brilliant rainbow painted on a natural gas tank along a Boston highway. The public enjoyed the characteristic splashes of color that graced this 1985 Love issuance, and more than 700 million stamps were sold.
