A straight line might be drawn from the Capitol, down the National Mall to the Washington Monument and on to the Lincoln Memorial. President Howard Taft, a Mason, dedicated funds for the Lincoln Memorial in 1911. Construction began in 1914 and was completed in 1922, during the presidency of Warren G. Harding, another Mason.

Within the memorial is Daniel Chester French’s massive statue of Abraham Lincoln, carved of twenty-eight blocks of white Georgia marble.
