Evangelization comforted many Native people, particularly after periods of warfare and of epidemics that caused drastic death and deep mourning across Native societies. Attractive for its teachings on family life, in too many instances, the evangelical approach has involved frontal attacks on Native traditional spirituality. A not easily dispelled ambivalence permeates this subject in Native society.
