On the evening of April 14, 1865, President Lincoln, his wife and two friends attended a performance of "Our American Cousin" at Ford's Theatre in Washington, DC. During the performance, a Confederate sympathizer John Wilkes Booth entered the President's box and shot Lincoln in the back of the head. The wounded Lincoln was immediately taken across the street to Petersen House where he died the following morning.
