On October 8, the 2009 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to Romanian-born German novelist Herta Müller. The Swedish Academy who picked Ms. Müller for the Prize described her as a writer “who, with the concentration of poetry and the frankness of prose, depicts the landscape of the dispossessed.”
The stamps shown here feature American recipients of the Nobel Prize in Literature including the first American man to win the Prize, Sinclair Lewis and the first American woman, Pearl Buck.
