This exhibition presented works of art commissioned by the US Postal Service over the last 40 years. These paintings and drawings represent the work of 42 different artists and showcase an array of techniques and styles.
Many U.S. postage stamps honor American leaders, explorers, inventors, entertainers, and thinkers, as well as the inventions and achievements that have made history and changed our nation. Many of those celebrated have shaped popular culture or blazed new trails in technology and communication. Collectively, the artworks commissioned for postage stamps create a patchwork quilt of American history and culture.
The people, places, and things depicted in this exhibit are presented in five galleries: Sports, Arts and Entertainment, Transportation, History and Exploration, and Literature.
