The use of atomic bombs at Hiroshima and Nagasaki are the only two uses of nuclear weapons in the history of human warfare. Despite numerous armed countries and a handful of threats, the technology’s largest and most far-reaching role has been as an energy generator. As of 2005, nuclear power provided 15% of the world’s electricity. Though any major source of energy has its drawbacks, nuclear power in all likelihood will increasing be employed by nations throughout the world to satisfy their energy needs.
