Homer Johnston's airmail career was short. He was reprimanded for crashing his aircraft too often. On July 18, 1920, Johnston crashed de Havilland airplane #206 at Chicago. He was told by Chief of Flying D. B. Colyer that in this wreck he showed,
"no judgment at all . . . apparently you made no effort to avert a crash. . . . Your other crash in #79 was inexcusable."
