Provenance: Donated by Harold A. Schultz, widower of Helen C. Schultz, 1992. According to to the donor, although Schultz's letter to Burchfield has not survived, she was probably moved to write Burchfield about the paintings after viewing them at the 1957 and 1961 Contemporary American Painting and Sculpture exhibitions at the University of Illinois. In 1961, the Krannert Art Museum purchased "Four Seasons" for its permanent collection.
