- Collection history unknown; purchased by Norton E. Carter (1870-1963, an Indian artifact dealer in Elkhorn, Wisconsin) from an unknown source in 1936; purchased by Indian art collector David T. Vernon (1900-1973) from N.E. Carter in the mid 1940s; acquired by MAI in 1968 through an exchange with the Jackson Hole Preserve, Inc. (a foundation backed by the Rockefeller family), which purchased Vernon's entire collection in 1965.
