The field book includes notes on the observation, banding, and collection of several species of pelagic birds; hand drawn maps of Baker Island, Sydney Island, Phoenix Island, Birnie Island, Enderbury Island, Jarvis Island, Palmyra Island; and a catalogue of specimens (numbered 1 - 92) that includes species, sex, measurements, and weights. Field books by Kenneth C. Balcomb include 1) Southern and Leeward Islands, 1966. The field book includes notes documenting travel; vegetation; and observations of seabirds, dolphins, porpoises, and whales. Notes also document bird banding and collection; and nest surveying. Several drawings of dolphins and other marine mammals observed at sea are included in the notes.
