- Abstract
- This field book contains note on the paleontological specimen and geology of the Devonian Hamilton Group in Central New York taken approximately between 13 July and 9 August 1928. Much of these notes cover the Moscow Formation. Locations Cooper visits include East Bethany, Ensenore Ravine, Bucktail Ravine (spafford valley), Avery Creek (near Lake Erie and Hamburg, New York), Wanakah Cliffs, Pike Creek , and other areas. Cooper describes stratigraphy of the locations, often providing color and consistency of shale in which fossils are found. Fossils vary greatly, but some examples of fossils recorded in this field book are sea urchins, sea snails and other gastropods and mollusks, and ostracoda. Also included are several maps that are annotated and have numeric or alpha numeric codes that Cooper uses in his field notes to refer to locations. Page numbers for these field notes are 0311-0473.
