- Summary
- This boot was worn by astronaut Gordon Cooper during training sessions prior to his Mercury flight on "Faith 7" in May 1962.
- The Mercury boots were designed by the B.F. Goodrich Company to be worn separately from the spacesuits over the spacesuit bladder and were constructed of lightweight nylon fabric with tennis-shoe-type soles. The upper surface was of nylon covered with the same aluminized coating as the spacesuit with front closing zipper and adjustment lacings on each side. The soles were constructed of rubber.
