Photograph of Gilbert E. DeLorme Sr., Atlanta Life Insurance Company reception

Object Details

Description
A black and white photograph of Gilbert E. DeLorme Sr., speaking at an Atlanta Life Insurance Company reception at the Butler Street YMCA gymnasium. He is standing in the foreground, wearing a dark three-piece suit, a medium toned tie, white collared shirt. Seated at the speaker’s table is Grace DeLorme seated directly behind her husband wearing a black dress and a corsage. The table is covered with flower arrangements, coffee cups and dessert dishes. There are two tables of people in the background. Seated at the speaker’s table, opposite of Gilbert E. DeLorme, Sr. and Grace DeLorme, and with his back to the camera, is Eugene Martin. Behind them, an American flag swag under a basketball net. Overlaying the bottom of the swag is a poster portrait of the founder of Atlanta Life, Alonzo Herndon in three quarters profile. To the left of the portrait is a poster that reads, [ATLANTA / LIFE / NUMBER / 1/ IN ’51], and a poster to the right of the portraits that reads, [CAN YOU IN ’52 / SAY WE WON / IN ’51], with a large pointing fist and a question mark in the center of the poster. To the left of the poster is an elongated Georgia state flag with a circle of stars surrounding a larger star in the canton. To the right of the posters is a partial view of a similar flag. Seated below the posters, against the back wall are Thomas and Mayme Holmes. A handwritten note on the back in blue ink identifies the subjects, location and date.
