- Lt. Colin Powell served with the 48th Infantry "Dragoons" from 1958 to 1960, first as Platoon Leader of Company B, 2nd Armored Rifle Battalion, and then as Platoon Leader and Executive Officer of Company D, 2nd Armored Rifle Battalion. He continued to wear the Dragoons insignia on his uniforms throughout his Army career.
- Description
- One (1) 48th Infantry Regiment Dragoons device worn by General Colin L. Powell. After he completed Army basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia, General Powell was assigned to the 48th Infantry (Dragoons) and stationed in West Germany. The square enameled metal insignia, on its face, features a coat of arms shield style design with navy blue background and a large gold dragon facing left. In the top left corner of the face is a small square canton of white enamel with a navy-blue chevron wave bordered in gold. Attached below the shield is a gold scroll with "DRAGOONS" in printed black letters. When worn on the Army Service uniform the pin is attached at the proper right chest above the breast pocket.
