Object Details
- Description
- László Moholy-Nagy arrived at photography at a time when great experimentation was occurring with the medium of photography as well as other art forms. This particular style of photography was called photomontage, or as Moholy-Nagy preferred to call it, “fotoplastik.” Created similar to a collage, different pre-existing images were arranged to create a new composition. The new image was then photographed to create the final photomontage. This technique was associated with the Dadaists, an artistic group that was staunchly “anti-art.” Rather than creating an image by drawing or painting, they would rely on pre-existing images to create art. In this case, Moholy-Nagy combines seemingly unrelated objects together to create an intriguing final composition.
