- Description
- One of thrirty-six (36) specimens of medicinal botanicals indigenous to the United States. Donated to the National Museum by Parke, Davis & Company in 1891. Beginning in the 1870s, the company sent expeditions into Central, South, and western North America, Fiji Islands, and the West Indies to collect plants used by indigenous peoples as medicines. In this way, the company expanded its product line and introduced new plant drugs to a broader population.
