- Power forward Jerry Lucas was a two-time NCAA Player of the Year (1961,1962,) leading the Ohio State Buckeyes to three NCAA Finals (1960-1962,) and winning the championship in 1960. Prior to his time at OSU, Lucas was an All-American at Middletown High School (Ohio) where he won two state championships (1956,1957.)
- Following his collegiate career, Lucas joined the National Basketball Association, playing for the Cincinnati Royals (1963-1969,) San Francisco Warriors (1969-1971,) and New York Knicks (1971-1974.) A seven-time All-Star, Lucas was named first team All-NBA three times and second team twice. The League's rookie of the year in 1964, he would win an NBA championship in 1973 as a member of the Knicks.
- Lucas also starred for the 1960 United States National Team, winning the Gold Medal in the Rome Olympics.
- For his professional career, Lucas averaged 17.0 points, 15.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists, accumulating 14,053 points and 12,942 rebounds in total. In 1980 he was inducted to the National Basketball Hall of Fame.
