Lee's Minerva World War II army brown knitting yarn skein
Object Details
- Description
- One skein of brown 'sports yarn' by Lee's Minerva with a paper label. This yarn was used to knit items of clothing for the U.S. military during the Second World War. This weight yarn was suitable for sock knitting, and the color was one of a range of shades available for home knitters to use to knit socks, scarves, gloves and mittens, and hats for the men and women serving in the US military during the war. Four fine gauge knitting needles, used originally in sock-knitting during World War II, were found inserted through the skein, with a few stitches cast on, and remain in place.
