- Description
- Alphonso Al Downing (b. 1941) pitched in the Major Leagues for 16 years, playting for the New York Yankees (1961-69,) Oakland Athletics (1970), Milwaukee Brewers (1970,) and Los Angeles Dodgers (1971-77).
- A two time All-Star and 1971 comeback player of the year, Downing pitched in three World Series. He finished his career with a 123-107 win-loss record.
- Downing famously threw the pitch which Hank Aaron hit for his record breaking home run in 1974. After retiring, Downing had a long career as a broadcaster.
