Cleveland/Hendrix Campaign Pin
Object Details
- Description
- These novelty spectacles announce the wearer’s support for Grover Cleveland and Thomas Hendricks 1884 campaign against Republican James G Blaine. In the 1880s industrialization and changes in consumer patterns meant a huge boom in the sheer number of campaign objects available for purchase, and these glasses – entirely useless but entertaining – offer an example of the growing combination of politics, popular culture, and consumption.
