- This Earl Monroe basketball card is number 142 in a series of 264 manufactured by the Topps Company Inc. for the 1973-1974 NBA season. The front of the card features a posed picture of the New York Knicks guard . The card’s reverse features a small cartoon image illustrating the factoid that “Earl has recovered from an injury to his left foot,” as well as a short biographical sketch and career statistics.
- Earl “The Pearl” Monroe was drafted by the Baltimore Bullets in 1967, winning the NBA Rookie of the Year award that season. He was traded to the New York Knicks in 1971 and spent the rest of his career with the team. Monroe was a four-time NBA All-Star and won the 1973 title with the Knicks. After retiring in 1980, he has since been inducted to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1990, and was named one of the 50 all-time greatest NBA players in 1996.
