Object Details
- Description
- This Zelmo Beaty basketball card is number 225 in a series of 264 manufactured by the Topps Company Inc. of New York, New York for the 1973-1974 American Basketball Association season. The front of the card features a posed picture of the Utah Stars center. The card’s reverse features a small cartoon image, followed by a short biographical sketch and career statistics.
- Zelmo "Big Z" Beaty was a two-time all-star in the NBA playing for the St. Louis/Atlanta Hawks from 1962 to 1969. After signing to play for the ABA's Los Angeles Stars, Beaty was legally ordered to sit out the 1969-70 season. Joining the Stars (who had moved to Utah) for the 1970-71 season, Beaty would go on to win the 1971 ABA championship, the 1971 Playoff MVP award, would be a three-time ABA All-Star, and was named to the All-ABA 2nd Team twice by the time he retired in 1974.
