Object Details
- Description
- Pitcher Edward Augustine Walsh (1881-1959) played Major League baseball from 1904-1917. The right hander spent all his career with the Chicago White Sox, excepting for his final season, when he took the mound for the Boston Braves.
- Walsh's 1.82 lifetime earned run average remains the lowest in Major League Baseball History (minimum1,000 innings.) Big Ed won 195 games against 126 losses in a career shortened by injury, throwing 1,736 strikeouts.
- In 1924, Walsh managed the White Sox for a single season. Roundly accepted as on the most dominant pitchers of his era, Walsh was elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946.
