Amidopyrine Merck
Object Details
- Description
- One of 116 specimens of medicinal chemicals donated by Merck and Company in 1930 for the pharmacy exhibits. These specimens replaced material from a 1918 exhibit of synthetic medicinal chemicals supplied by Merck (accession 62578), a 1920 exhibit on medicinal preparations derived from the mineral kingdom (accession 64562), and a 1921 exhibit of pharmaceuticals arranged by therapeutic effect. Material in the latter two exhibits had been donated by the Powers-Weightman-Rosengarten Company, a Philadelphia firm acquired by Merck in 1927. Most of the older specimens were returned to Merck. Objects in the pharmacy exhibits were usually replaced with “fresh” specimens within 10-15 years as specimens became depleted, discolored, or out-of-date.
