Description: This specimen is one of 115 samples of "fine and rare chemicals" produced by John Uri Lloyd for display at the Cincinnati Industrial Exposition of 1875. Lloyd was presumably awarded a "blue ribbon" for his chemicals at the exposition. The Industrial Expositions, sponsored by the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce, Board of Trade, and the Ohio Mechanics Institute, were held annually from 1870-1888 to showcase the city's manufacturers and businesses.; Dr. Lloyd donated the collection to the museum in 1924, and, two years later, he donated the medal he received at the exposition (see object MG.M-02211). John Uri Lloyd (1849-1936) was a pharmacist and leader of the eclectic medical movement in the United States.
