- Coal City Chert, also known as Laberdie, is a white chert with light gray splotches. When weathered it becomes dark gray with slight iron staining. It is abundantly fossiliferous. Brachiopod inclusions include: Composita, Mesolobus, Meekella, Punctospirifer, and Schuchertella are common. It has an opaque, medium fine to fine texture. Deposits are found in light gray limestone beds.
