- Notes
- Collector's notes, written on tag attached to object: Paiwan tribe, Pingtung Hsien, Raisha to Rikirikisha (village) area, Taiwan (SW Formosa). Woven in its entirety, except for the binding and button frogs. Indigo-dyed ramie (china grass) base.into which a repeated design of stylized human heads are woven with red, white, and yellow woolen yarns. The design yarns, the edge bindings, and button frogs are made from respun Chinese trade cloth. However, the binding is probably original cloth. The buttons, which are probably silvered brass, are likely from trade sources as well. This is an early traditional design of the older type. Ca. 19th to 20th century.
