Belt skirt
Object Details
- Notes
- Grass skirt made of interlaced buriti. Beaded zigzag pattern on woven band at waist (top). Zigzag made of black seeds with upper point a red seed. Five centimeters down is a line of red and black seeds overlaying a row of stitching. The cord has resin. Dr. Newton says it was obtained from and made by Prednko, a 25 y/o female. This was made for sale and closes at the center front. The bead cord has been cut by bugs in many places, some are repaired with white thread and the separated beads are in a bag. Called saia, Portuguese for skirt. The Krikati is he?pre. The band is made of buriti frond, interlaced with buriti frond fringe. The bead cord is 2z buriti. The beads are both small and medium ormosia, and small brown/black wrinked seeds. The tie cord is 2z tucum caroa. Dr. Newton's photos are B34.31, which is a photo of Auki modeling a similar skirt. She believes this maker has ties to the Guajajara, and that this skirt is a unique form. Price paid: 30 crs.
