- Left side of the outer carapace, or shell, of a fossil adult male ostracod, approximately 0.63 mm long. The fine lines etched across the surface are the results of an organism, like a sponge, damaging the shell after the ostracod died. This species is extinct. Written by Kate Dzikiewicz.
