Object Details
- Description
- This round metal tag marks Owney’s visit to Gallup, New Mexico. E. Willmunder presented the tag to Owney, as marked on the front and back sides of it. Mr. Willmunder was a member of the Knights of the Pythias, a fraternal organization devoted to benevolent activities that began in Washington, DC, in 1864 and continues in operation. The organization’s symbols include the knight’s head and cross guard finial. The initials F.C.B. stand for friendship, charity, and benevolence. Mr. Willmunder’s association with the Post Office Department or a railway line is currently unknown, nor is it known when this tag was presented to Owney.
