- Owney received this trade check token for 5-cents off from “The Brunswick,” an establishment located at “15 W. Gay” street in an unidentified city. There is no additional information to indicate when or where this token was added to Owney’s collection. This token, is known as a trade check. These tokens were used much as coupons are today, offered by merchants as a lure to increase customers’ purchases.
