6c National Parks Crater Lake approved die proof
Object Details
- Description
- Postmaster General James A. Farley approved the 6c Crater Lake die proof on August 24, 1934, less than two weeks before the first day of issue of this National Parks stamp on September 5. President Franklin D. Roosevelt's approval was indicated by "OK" and his initials. According to columnist Ernest Kehr in his "Stamp Notes" obituary for FDR, the president "broke postal precedents by ordering the six-cent denomination to be printed in blue instead of orange because 'that is the color of Crater Lake'."
