- Graf Zeppelin World Flight postcard
Graf Zeppelin World Flight postcard
Object Details
- Description
- Passenger Jeronimo Megias wrote this card on board the LZ127 Graf Zeppelin during its 1929 flight around the world, and then he had the zeppelin commander Dr. Hugo Eckener autograph it. The postage was tied by the zeppelin's onboard postmark, and then the card was dropped over Danzig. It is one of only twenty-three items dropped there. From Danzig it traveled by regular airmail to Berlin and then by surface to Spain.
- The onboard cancel ties the 2 RM Zeppelin postcard rate for this flight. In addition, the card has the red illustrated zeppelin flight cachet from the World Flight, a Danzig arrival postmark from drop, a Berlin airmail postmark, a red Berlin airmail cachet, and an unreadable French transit postmark.
- In 1930 Dr. Megias published a book about his zeppelin flight, "La primera vuelta al mundo en el Graf Zeppelin." The book, in Spanish with illustrations, is a desirable collector item.
