Graf Zeppelin Swiss Flight post card
Object Details
- Description
- On the first Swiss flight of 1929, the LZ127 Graf Zeppelin dropped mail over a dozen cities in Switzerland. The first drop of 386 pieces on September 26 was over Solothurn. The 5 Rappen Swiss postage remained uncancelled onboard the Zeppelin, although the card was struck with a red private onboard cachet and the black zeppelin on board postmark. At the drop site, the Swiss postage was tied by a Solothurn postmark and the card was forwarded to its final destination at St. Gallen by surface mail.
