Object Details
- Description
- Picture postcard carried by the LZ127 Graf Zeppelin on its November 2, 1929, Zürich-Dübendorf flight and dropped over St. Gallen, Switzerland. The card is franked with a 50 Reichspfennig German airmail stamp tied by an onboard postmark dated November 2, 1929 (Sieger type IIIa). The card also bears the confirmation cachets "An Bord des Luftschiffes Graf Zeppelin 2. Nov. 1929" ("On board the Graf Zeppelin November 2, 1929") and the rectangular "Mit Luftschiff Graf Zeppelin befördert" ("Carried on the airship Graf Zeppelin"), both in red. Two further cachets, most likely private in nature, were affixed. The blue cachet reads LZ127 Schweiz-Fahrt (Switzerland flight) and the pink cachet reads "Luftschiff Graf Zeppelin Schweiz-Fahrt" ("Airship Graf Zeppelin Switzerland flight"). A St. Gallen postmark dated November 2, 1929, corroborates the drop over St. Gallen.
