- Folded letter from Paris suburb office of La Maison Blanche
Folded letter from Paris suburb office of La Maison Blanche
Object Details
- Description
- This folded letter originated from the Paris suburb office of La Maison Blanche on December 22, 1870, (fifth collection) and was prepaid 20 centimes for the French internal letter rate to Toulouse, “Par Ballon Monté.” Based on the date and time of collection, it is likely that this letter was carried out of Paris by the balloon La Délivrance.
- The La Délivrance carried 110 kilograms of mail. Despite bitterly cold weather, the flight remained uneventful, and the balloon landed safely in an unoccupied region of France.
