Folded letter from Paris office at Place de la Bourse
Object Details
- Description
- This folded letter originated from the Paris office at Place de la Bourse on December 26, 1870, (sixth collection) and was prepaid 20 centimes for the French internal letter rate to Granville, “Par Ballon Monté.” Based on the date and time of collection, it is likely that this letter was carried out of Paris by the balloon Tourville.
- The Tourville carried 160 kilograms of mail. Except for bitterly cold weather, the flight remained uneventful, and the balloon landed safely in an unoccupied region of France.
