- Description
- This Mississippi Territory Issue stamp commemorates the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Mississippi Territory. The Mississippi Territory was organized in 1798 from land that had been disputed by the United States and Spain. The stamp depicts a map of the territory and when each area was incorporated, the seal of the territory and a portrait of Winthrop Sargent, the first governor of the territory. Sargent was appointed by President John Adams.
