- This G.A.R. Issue stamp commemorates the final encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Grand Army of the Republic was a fraternal organization established after the American Civil War, composed of members of the Union Army. The organization held a gathering every year from 1866 until 1949. The stamp features an image of a young Union solider and an older G.A.R. veteran.
