- This National Capital Sesquicentennial Issue stamp commemorates the 150th anniversary of the establishment of National Capital of Washington, DC. This stamp features the White House, the executive mansion and official residence and workplace of the President of the United States. The house was designed by James Hoban. John Adams, the second President of the United States was the first president to reside in the White House. The building sustained damaged during an attack by the British Army during the War of 1812; it was later reconstructed.
